  • Position for Application Engineer in OCT, based in Shenzhen, China

    Montreal, Canada (June 18, 2018) AlazarTech, a manufacturer of high-performance, low-cost PC Based Instruments, invites applications for the position of Application Engineer to work in the Shenzhen office of Scott Engineering Ltd. to provide pre-sales and post-sales technical sales support to AlazarTech customers, test and calibrate AlazarTech products, and assist customers in adapting example programs supplied by AlazarTech to their specific needs.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Communicating with customers to understand their application and matching it to the appropriate AlazarTech product
    • Making remote and on-site demonstrations of AlazarTech products for customers (pre-sales)
    • Testing and verifying products received from AlazarTech prior to shipment to customer, as added Quality Control
    • Testing, verifying and repairing products received back from customers (RMA)
    • Communicating with AlazarTech factory for complex repair tasks
    • Writing custom software for customers to help them get started with AlazarTech products
    • Assisting customers in setting up their AlazarTech boards in their PCs if necessary (after-sales)
    • Assisting customers in troubleshooting their software (after-sales)
    • Providing help in translating AlazarTech technical and marketing documents, and website into Simplified Chinese
    • Assisting AlazarTech in procurement of various parts from China
    • Learning all programming environments supported by AlazarTech (C/C++., C#, LabVIEW, Python, MATLAB, CUDA, OpenCL)
    • Assisting in providing monthly reports to AlazarTech regarding sales activity

    Skills/Qualifications:

    • At least 2 years of C/C++ software development experience in university or work environment
    • Understanding of OCT application
    • Prior experience in using AlazarTech waveform digitizer boards in OCT application
    • Prior experience in using data acquisition boards in PC environment
    • Understanding of Personal Computer architecture (PCI Express bus, motherboard BIOS etc.)
    • Experience in Windows and Linux
    • Must possess effective written and oral communication skills
    • Personable, presentable and articulate. Hard working, attention to detail
    • Must be bilingual (Mandarin/English). Must be able to communicate with AlazarTech factory in English

    Bonus Skills:

    • Knowledge of LabVIEW, MATLAB, Python, CUDA and OpenCL

    Experience required: Candidate can be a fresh graduate, but must have programming experience

    Education required: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent experience

  • New software generates high-speed, low latency OCT images by linking waveform digitizers to GPUs using True DMA

    Montreal, Canada (May 9, 2018) AlazarTech, a manufacturer of high-performance, low-cost PC Based Instruments, today announced the release of a new OCT Signal Processing Library called ATS-GMA-OCT™ for use with AMD Radeon™ Pro Graphical Processing Units (GPUs).

    ATS-GMA-OCT provides out-of-the-box OCT imaging. It consists of a library of OpenCL kernels that operate on the data acquired by AlazarTech waveform digitizers. Up to 1.9 million FFTs per second can be calculated, which is more than sufficient for existing swept sources on the market. Windowing, Zero Padding, Dispersion Compensation, and Log functions are also included.

    The unique modular API for ATS-GMA-OCT allows users to customize their signal processing algorithms. The modularity provides many hooks into the GPU data path, where customers can add their own signal processing code.

    ATS-GMA-OCT requires ATS-GMA-BASE™, which uses True DMA with no CPU involvement in data transfer to GPU. This results in latency as low as 100 µs between data acquisition and processing by ATS-GMA-OCT. Non-DMA transfers have non-deterministic latency that can be in the range of 3.5 milliseconds.

    ATS-GMA-OCT includes sample programs written in C/C++ to set-up waveform digitizer & FFT parameters, acquire data, and receive the FFT result buffer.

    ATS-GMA is compatible with Windows® 7 and Windows 10.

  • New software allows DMA of data from AlazarTech waveform digitizers to GPU at up to 6.9 GB/s with very low latency

    Montreal, Canada (March 23, 2018) AlazarTech, a manufacturer of high-performance, low-cost PC Based Instruments, today announced the release of ATS-GMA™, a software library that allows users to DMA data from its PCI Express waveform digitizers to AMD Radeon™ Pro Graphical Processing Units (GPUs) at rates up to 6.9 GB/s with latency as low as 100 μs.

    Though the powerful processing capabilities and high-speed graphical memory bus make GPUs perfectly suited for signal processing applications, direct DMA from hardware devices to the GPU’s on-board memory can be problematic. In the case of a waveform digitizer, users must manually copy data returned from the waveform digitizer buffer to the GPU, which causes a drastic reduction in overall data throughput. A commonly used alternate approach with NVIDIA® GPUs is to use CUDA® streams to overlap multiple buffer transfers. This method increases the transfer speed to approximately 5 GB/s, but suffers from large data latency.

    ATS-GMA solves both these issues by enabling the DMA of data from AlazarTech PCI Express digitizers to compatible AMD GPUs without any CPU involvement. An added benefit of this approach is that data becomes available in GPU memory with very low latency.

    The initial release will be ATS-GMA-BASE™, which includes a sample program that demonstrates how to use the ATS-GMA-BASE library to do simple data processing and DMA data from AlazarTech PCI Express digitizers to compatible AMD GPUs.

    In the coming weeks, AlazarTech will also release add-on libraries that allow users to perform additional signal processing on data captured into GPU memory by ATS-GMA-BASE.

    ATS-GMA is compatible with Windows® 10. ATS-GMA-BASE includes a sample program written in C/C++ source code, which implements very simple GPU kernels that invert data and write it back to a buffer in computer memory.

  • New low-cost 12 bit, 20 MS/s PCI Express waveform digitizer

    Montreal, Canada (March 1, 2018) AlazarTech, a manufacturer of high-performance, low-cost PC Based Instruments, today announced the release of ATS9120®, a dual-channel 20 MS/s, 12 bit waveform digitizer based on the single-lane Gen1 PCI Express bus.

    ATS9120 features two simultaneous analog input channels that can each be sampled at rates up to 20 MS/s with 12 bit vertical resolution. Each channel has 10 MHz of full power analog input bandwidth. With software selectable attenuation, users can achieve an input voltage range of ±40 mV to ±20 V. ATS9120 uses an on-board FIFO to temporarily store ADC data before DMAing it to motherboard memory.

    ATS9120 is our first step towards offering a more powerful, but still low-cost alternative to our PCI bus based digitizers.”, stated Muneeb Khalid, President of AlazarTech. “ATS9120 can not only replace ATS310 in customer applications, it also provides data streaming capability, which is a feature the ATS310 did not have”.

    The unit occupies only one half-length PCI Express slot, making it very easy to integrate it into a customer’s system.

    ATS9120 PCI Express digitizers are also compatible with ATS-GPU, a software library developed by AlazarTech that allows users to do real-time data transfer from ATS9120 to a GPU card at full bus speed.

  • New 12 bit, 1 GS/s PCI Express waveform digitizer

    Montreal, Canada (November 27, 2017) AlazarTech, a manufacturer of high-performance, low-cost PC Based Instruments, today announced the release of ATS9371®, a 1 GS/s, 12 bit waveform digitizer based on the 8-lane Gen3 PCI Express bus.

    ATS9371 features two simultaneous analog inputs that can each be sampled at rates up to 1 GS/s with 12 bit vertical resolution. Each input has its own 12-bit, 1 GSPS ADC chip. Each channel has 2 Gigasamples of on-board, dual-port acquisition memory. Full scale input range of the ATS9371 is fixed at +/- 400 mV.

    The 8-lane Gen3 PCI Express bus interface on the ATS9371 is capable of sustained data transfers as fast as 6.8 GB/s.

    “Many customers were asking for a more affordable waveform digitizer. They were willing to compromise on the sample rate compared to our 4 GS/s ATS9373, but not the PCIe Gen3 throughput.     To make room for the continued expansion of our business, AlazarTech has expanded its facilities in Pointe-Claire, a suburb of Montreal.  With almost twice as much space available, we hope to serve our customers even better.

    Our company takes product reliability and quality very seriously.  As such, the entire facility, including administrative areas, has been equipped with ESD flooring.
